Title: WoK Campaign
Post by: Khornagaunt on May 28, 2015, 02:37:56 PM
Hi guys, I was wondering how many of you would be interested in running some sort of campaign for our new WoK minis. I was thinking something involving territories, a big map of the land, and a point system that rewards playing games and painting. There would be 3 different winners; best general (most game points), best dressed (most hobby points) and Conqueror (most points altogether).

Seizing territories would lend extra game points, and having a fully painted army would give you 1 free reroll per round. More details and extras can be hashed out later. Everyone would be fighting for their house, so mirror matches would still garner points, but be considered "training matches" and not gain territory.

I wouldn't mind running this for 2 months or so, or for as long as people are interested.

I'd be interested in playing.

I'm in.  Just give me a ballpark of when to expect this to hit.  I'll save up all my painting enthusiasm for the campaign.

Allan I say we use a town for the Map since these are pretty small armies that we're fielding.

Count me in, I need to both build and paint a bunch.

Bumping this thread.  Allan, would you be down to start this in September?  Post-Hell Dorado tourney.  I would play a $#&^&-Load of Wrath of Kings.

Yeah, I'd be down for this. Would people rather do a narrative based campaign or one more points based? Greg and I were talking about having different territories that grant different benefits that armies could fight over.

I vote for a narrative campaign.  I haven't participated in one of those in a long time.

I was thinking about this yesterday; It would be cool since the story of the world is about noble houses fighting over political power if we each had a noble lord we represented and fighting other players gained us political favor.  It's a little battle-points-y but could be fun with the right flavor match.

That would explain the inevitable blue on blue battles.

WHAT IF!!!!  Every week or so we had a political agenda that we tried to achieve by fighting those who opposed it?

This is going to turn into a game of Vampire: Blood n Smoke.  :)

Also, given the amount of comments of "I'd have to build and paint a bunch" a progressive narrative campaign would work as well. Having games slowly grow in size, and give campaign point rewards for getting models/units painted. I really liked the infinity one that worked like that.

Allan, I'd be happy to help you come up with a structure for this, or at the very least give you all the materials I have for WFB campaigns.

We could probably throw together a couple Mighty Empires tile sets to make a sizable area of terrain.

Yeah, these all sound like great ideas. Miles, I'm not sure if I'll be in this week, but let's talk if I am or next week at the latest. I'd like to start maybe some time late August-early September and slowly ramp up game sizes. How would the whole political agenda thing work game wise?

Just spit-balling some ideas here:

Something about player's lists is fixed for the campaign, maybe their general?

Each week a new rule is proposed, something meaningful in-game but not gamebreaking like:
"Players may take an additional 2 Rank infantry when they take 6 or more."

Players then do battle with opponents.  After battling every player casts their vote For or Against.
Winners votes count double.
If For passes, then the rule takes effect for the rest of the campaign.
If Against passes, then it does not.

Every week we have a new rule. etc etc

If the

Hey guys, here are some ideas I was thinking about for the campaign. Each victory and location could be worth a certain amount of points, which you would get to spend on these upgrades. Just keep track of what you have in a list somewhere and what you buy next.

Army Reinforcements
Permanent- Banners are lost if the model carrying them are killed.
-   New Recruits- + 2 R1 Infantry or+ 1 R2 Infantry- 2 pts
-   Newly minted- Extra rank 1 leader/specialist – 3pts
-   Adult Supervision- Extra rank 2 leader/specialist – 6 pts
-   I HAVE THE POWER!!!!- +1 increase to move, will, resilience, health, or attack of a leader or specialist. No more than 3 upgrades total. If the model is killed, lose 1 upgrade. – 4pts per upgrade
-   Banner of Ferocity- +1 die for friendly models making a melee attack within 3”- 5 pts
-   Banner of Courage- +1 Will to friendly models within 3”- 4 pts
-   Banner of Speed- +1 Speed to friendly models within 3”- 4 pts
-   Rising Star- Your models may gain the training ability of a R1 leader even if it is not the army’s commander as long as they share a type with it- 5 pts
-   Best Buds- Specialists of the same type can use combined activations like infantry- 5 pts
-   Inspirational- A Leader can activate 1 more model- 2 pts

One Time Only – Scrolls last game to game if they are not used, but once they are, they are lost. Scrolls are carried by individual models and are lost if that model is killed.

-   Hand of Fate- 1 re-roll per game – 3pts
-   Switcharoo- Rearrange 1 piece of terrain or friendly model after deployment -3 pts
-   Dark Omens-1 Will for 1st round for all enemy models- 5 pts
-   Scroll of flight- model gains flying for 1 turn- 2 pts
-   Scroll of Stone- replace an overpower with a strike, or a strike with a result of your choice- 3 pts
-   Scroll of healing- all friendly models within 5” heal 1 health- 5 pts
-   Scroll of silence- no will attacks or magic attacks may be used for 1 round within 6” of this model, and enemy leaders within 6” cannot be used for combined activations- 8 pts
-   Advance Recon- Increase the DZ of one type of model by 1. – 1 pt

I'm looking to start it next week.

Hello, so, this is my outline for the campaign.

Players pick 1 House to play as throughout the campaign. Each player starts with 4 territories and 1 capital. Each time a game is played, the players wager a territory. The winner gains a territory, and the loser loses one.

If a player has only it's capital left, they may set up the terrain on their half of the board however they see fit to represent their fortifications and may field an extra skirmish-sized army. Games that are played for a players capital must be at the maximum game size.

If a player loses their capital, I'm not sure what should happen next. They can either be eliminated from the campaign, or they can keep playing and attempt to win back a territory from another player. However, during this territory-less period, points scored in games would count double for their opponents. I'm leaning towards this but it could drag things on a bit. Your thoughts are welcome.

Speaking of points, you can score 2 types of points, conquest points and artisan points. There will be a prize for the players with the highest score in each category, Conquer and Master Artisan, and another for the player with the highest combination of both, the Victorious King prize.

Conquest points are scored by playing games. Each game played is worth 1-3 pts, depending on the size, a win is worth 2 pts to the victor, and a draw gives 1 pt to each player.

Artisan points are scored by painting and making terrain. Points for painting are as follows;
Small infantry model- 1 pt
Large infantry model- 2 pts
Small Specialist/Leader- 2 pts
Large Specialist/Leader- 3 pts
Huge Specialist- 4 pts

To be considered painted, models must have started the campaign unpainted or with only minimal paint, and have at least 3 colours and be based.

A terrain piece is worth 1-10 pts, depending on size and complexity. 1 being a low wall, 5 being a building, 10 being a castle, etc.

As for buying upgrades/banners/scrolls, are people interested in that idea? Or would you want to keep it to just points and territories?

I'll make some sheets for players to keep track of their points and territories. This would start next week on the 14th, and go for 4 weeks. It's $10 to play for prize support. Once I get the money, you'll get your sheet and can start tracking games and points.

I really like the rules so far!  I would say definitely let territory-less players keep going, it keeps things interesting and keeps more players involved.

I would say for the painting, make it a 3 mans minimum for infantry. (3 level 1 infantry for 1 point?)  Otherwise I'll just start batch-painting all my jelly mans and sharks for 40 points. Then again maybe that's fine? I'm definitely excited for an excuse to paint the rest of my army.

I think points and territories are probably enough?  I've found that unless you have a deep understanding of how the game is balanced, trying to add rules and bonuses on top of things just leads to broken combos and wonky situations.

How many games can we play per week?  There should probably be a cap on that.  Considering the speed of this game, 2 games/week seems reasonable.

Yeah, 2 games a week seems like a good limit. You're welcome to play more, but only the first 2 count.

And I'm ok with over-incentivising painting dudes. Let's see some painted armies battling for the capitals.

Just to get an idea of who's playing what, would anyone who is interested in playing sound off and mention what house they're fielding? I'd love to see all 5 represented, and I think there's a solid chance of that.

I'm going with Goritsi. Got to get them painted.

Also, how do people feel about allowing proxies? I have some old Wulfen models from Confrontation that I'd like to use. They look very similar.

I generally don't care about proxies provided they're about the same size/shape/base
